Bronx, N.Y. (April 15, 2014) – Last Saturday was a busy days for the Fordham University football Rams but it had nothing to do with any on field activity. No, the Rams dedicated the day to community service with one group heading to the Rockaways to assist with a Sandy Saturday project and another group spending time with members of the Eagle Academy in the Bronx.
The Sandy Solidarity Program was established by the office of University Mission and Ministry and the Dorothy Day Center for Service and Justice established and includes Fordham students traveling to the Rockaways to assist the Habitat for Humanity of Westchester in rebuilding the Breezy Point and the Rockaways.

The Fordham student-athletes assisted in cleaning up areas hardest hit by Sandy back in October of 2012. The student-athletes assisted with clearing debris from houses damaged by the storm as the area is still rebuilding after the devastating storm.
The Fordham contingent was comprised of JQ Bowers, Jordan Chapman, Marc DeSisto, Tim Donahue, Andrew Erenberg, Brandon Fields, Ben Johnson, Khamrone Kolb, Brett Lambert , Dan Light, Adam Malkiewicz, Griffin Murphy , Kevin Soares, Jack Treanor, Brandon Wier and Nick Zawisha.
While that group was busy in the Rockaways, another group was spending time with members of the Eagle Academy in the Bronx. The Rams have been spending time every two weeks with students from the Eagle Academy for Young Men, a New York City Department of Education public all boys school in the Bronx.
Since Eagle opened its doors in the Bronx in 2004, the Eagle Academy for Young Men has seen over 1,000 current and former students pass through its doors on the path to becoming successful men. The program has expanded to five schools across the region with more to come.
The Fordham football student-athletes have been spending time with their mentees all semester, helping the students with homework, playing games with them and helping them with any problems they may be experiencing.
Spending time with Eagle Academy students last Saturday were Emmanuel Adeyeye, George Dawson, Nick Glogau, Eric Darnell, Zack Johnson, Justin Vaughn, Garrick Mayweather, Kendall Pearcey, Joe Pavlik, Matt Stotle, and Ian Williams.
The students who have been mentored by the Rams will be in attendance at the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 26, at 11:00AM on Jack Coffey Field.
